Jasmine richardson where is she now

Jasmine reportedly wanted to take on her brother, eight-year-old Jacob, and climbed upstairs where he lay in his bedroom and stabbed him five times, including a wide, deep slash across his neck. When police arrived they at first feared year-old Jasmine's absence meant she had been kidnapped by the crazed murderer.

Jasmine had met Steinke at a punk rock concert and immediately became intrigued by his goth lifestyle. Photographs on her MySpace page show how the clean cut young girl began changing under Steinke's influence. Steinke had grown up with an alcoholic mother whose partners abused him. He was bullied by his classmates at school.

A court later heard that by the age of 13, Steinke was diagnosed with depression and hyperactivity and later tried to hang himself.

Over the next 10 years he adopted the persona of the " year old werewolf" and wore a vial of blood around his neck. He had a user account at the VampireFreaks. When Jasmine's parents discovered the relationship they forbade her from seeing him or going out.

Online accounts belonging to both Steinke and Jasmine revealed that it was she who came up with the murder plan. Writing to Jeremy online, she said "I have this plan. It begins with me killing them and ends with me living with you. Another message Steinke wrote on his Windows Live Spaces account about her parents read "Their throats I want to slit. Especially when I see to it that they are gone. They shall pay for their insulince [sic].

Finally there shall be silence. Their blood shall be payment! Jasmine discussed her plans to kill her parents with her friends, but no-one believed her. On the night of the murders, Jasmine would later testify, her brother Jacob pleaded for his life and emitted a gurgling sound as she stabbed him, Steinke finishing him off by slitting his throat.

She would later say that she killed him because it was too cruel to leave him without their parents. Two hours after the deaths Jasmine and Steinke were seen laughing and kissing at a restaurant. Soon after the pair's arrest, Steinke asked Jasmine to marry him via letters from his prison cell, and she agreed.

Asked later why they committed the murders, Richardson said: "I loved him so much. I thought it would bring us closer together". In June , aged 14, Jasmine Richardson went on trial for three counts of first degree murder.

She was found guilty on all three and sentenced to 10 years jail, the maximum allowed by Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act.

In , Steinke was found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to three concurrent life sentences in prison, with an earliest parole date of 25 years. His lawyers argued that Steinke was in an alcohol and drug-fuelled haze when he "snapped" and stabbed Jasmine's parents. They described him as a lovestruck, immature man who would do anything to keep the pre-teen girl's affection. I was actually 'friends' with her on Facebook until last fall, how did I find out?

Rest assured, she no longer lives in Alberta and has a boyfriend in the States, so she may actually leave the country. I do believe that the name she uses on Facebook is not the name she now legally goes by either and has pretty much everything set to private and the profile picture she uses is an anime-style drawing. I'm not going to divulge her identity, so don't ask. My dad was a journalist who covered this story. He and his co-worker wrote a true crime novel called "Runaway Devil".

Truly is a fascinating story. The book sold in north America in two day's. His book is used as a teaching tool. This murderer is truly a psychopath. I don't think she deserves to be allowed to return to society for what she did. Even though she was still a child at the time. She made a grown-up decision and should be held responsible for it. When someone has been so abused how are they suppose to handle, ordinary life, even if they don't hurt anyone but themselves, nothing with these people is normal, they live in a world were they perceive it to be hostile, and people keep showing them how right they are.

They were laughing and kissing each other at a restaurant after the murders She hasn't ever acknowlegded what she did, no remorse, nothing. Maybe her conduct during those 10 years under surveillance was great but Only that next time she won't be able to leave after serving 10 years, so it might be not worthy to murder again. My question is why did they let their 12 yr old daughter go to a punk rock concert in the first place?

But anyways, as a parent of 3 daughters I wouldn't have called the cops on him, we have our own way of dealing with monsters like this!

I read a story a few years ago about a 15 year old girl in Iran who committed a murder and she was stripped naked and whipped to death in the public square! She died after being given 65 hard lashes with the whip!

This girl was and is evil. She doesn't deserve a second chance. If she were in America they would have put her away for 25 years. Her whole family is dead because of her selfishness and she still gets to live her life? She deserves the death penalty. This is one seriously sick twisted girl, I just hope she got the help she needed while locked up.

If I had a 12 year old daughter and I found out she was seeing a 23 year old I would be calling the cops on him, I can't understand why they didn't, maybe if they had things may have turned out differently for them.

Not that I blame them for what happened here but maybe if he had been arrested and they had been separated his influence over her would have disappeared and this tragedy could possibly have been prevented. Wow, this is insane. I too would have been upset if my year-old daughter were dating a year-old guy. I would have called the police!

I feel so much for the parents and child who died because of this mentally ill 12 year old and also mentally ill boyfriend. Such a horrid story! I think she is definitely a psychopath.

According to Psychology Today, this is a "personality disorder that is exhibited by people who employ a combination of charm, manipulation, intimidation, and sometimes violence to control others, in order to satisfy their own selfish desires. It is estimated that approximately 1 percent of the adult male population in the U.

Men are more likely than women to be psychopaths. The best thing we can do is to spread knowledge of this condition so that others can protect themselves. This is a compelling article. Her brother never had a chance at life, and she gets her life back after only 10 years. Also, and I'm sorry if this sounds like blaming the victim, that's the last thing I want to do and I don't mean it like that at all, but the parents should have called the police on that p.

I don't know if that would have changed the outcome, but a year-old who's dating a 12 year old girl belongs in jail. Just maybe if they didn't have contact with each other, this wouldn't have happened. I in no way blame the parents for not doing so. If it comes across that way, I swear that's not how I meant it.

It's entirely possible that they did call the police and the article didn't mention it, and even if they didn't, they couldn't have guessed what would happen. A real horror crime that should have merited only death by hanging.

Sometimes the devil enters even a child and one must smother it. Very sad indeed. Mika, she's been out if jail for years.

But now she has no restrictions. No curfew, no supervision, etc. My God, it's horrible to read. It's very, very nightmarish to think that such individuals can be born in a world that's contained in the lap of beautiful nature.

I think that the parents should have took away everything she used to text and then moved far away. It is not the parents or school, it was just in that child. I have seen the best parents that when the child gets out of the house the kid can go bad. It happens. Thanks for the review, it was interesting.

I don't understand why these demented killers are not tried as adults under the law. It's not as if they are isolated cases. There is a long list at the end of this story of similar incidents involving kids approx 12 years old. I can also think of another incident in Calgary where a young boy named Ryan Garrioch was stabbed to death in a school yard by another student. Can you imagine this girl being assimilated and living a normal life when her own attorney says she does not fully appreciate the gravity of what she did?

It's negligent and reckless to put her back out on the street. Murder is the most serious crime yet in many cases, the perpetrators do less time than those convicted of drugs and property offences.

Time to overhaul the system and make sentences commensurate with the gravity of the harm done and need to protect society. Very morbid! I just couldn't imagine how a young 12 year-old female would be able to kill her parents, and worst This is very horrible, just the thought of it brings chill to my spine.

I think there is a need to amend the law for juvenile delinquent, yes, Jasmine was minor when she committed the crime, but giving her 10 years for 3 counts of murder is not enough. Especially that she has no remorse for the crime she's done. Are you kidding me? Lilly this is serious and horrific story not the place for what you wrote.

Why does hubpage editors let these comments take place. This is why I rarely write on this site anymore. Oh my God, what a horrific crime. This is the first I have read of this. Although Jasmine was a minor when the crime was committed, I feel she also should have been sentenced to three concurrent life sentences. This girl and that man are psychopathic killers. Those poor parents as they looked into the eyes of their own daughter and that pervert 23 year old man.

Her poor brother only eight years old pleading for his life at the hands of his older sister. What a sick world we live in. You'll find many serial killers who come from privileged and well-rounded backgrounds. I have just begun working at a mental institution and I can tell you that a lack of physical discipline was not what made these people the way that they are.

Having had a rebellious teenager, I know how difficult it is to control them. Although my child did not do anything this horrific it was enough for me to know what a dilemma a parent can be put in. Perhaps the answer is to have free mental health training for parents who have children out of control. If they could have handled it early on maybe it would have made a difference.

AS it is, I would say this child needs to be incarcerated her whole life. She has not learned to be responsible for her own actions or to even regret them. She is a danger to society. People saying there MUST be some latent mental illness or something behind this, that "you won't let me see my boyfriend so you must die!!!

It's exactly enough reason for an irrational child. It is all the reason this little self-absorbed piece of shit needed to do what she did. It has nothing to do with lack of discipline, nothing to do with some secret, exotic mental illness Nothing unique or mystical about it, stop mythologizing this vile piece of garbage. She should have been executed.

You have to wonder why her parents once they found out about her 23 year old boyfriend didn't call the police on him, maybe if he had been removed from her life there might have been a chance that they would still be alive today, of course its entirely possible the same outcome could have occured even with him gone from her life as she is clearly a very twisted individual but I think being with him and the lifestyle he lived contributed to her mental problems and really didn't help them.

Imagine how her parents and brother would feel How would you feel? Someone very close to you killed you in cold blood and she barely had a slap on the wrist. She was rehabilitated in a very comfortable manner. I bet you would be turning in your grave! I know I would. Look at Karla Homolka for instance, she has been shamed into what she did and many people know who she is now.

It doesn't cause any problems knowing. But it does bring some justice for that family. If you can even call it that. I'm disgusted on how all of this has turned out.

Living comfortably on tax payers money who work hard and actually has a sence of "love" for the ones close to them. Getting a free education in Calgary?!? That's fucked. There are alot more deserving people I can go on and on about this. I just hope someone in the system will have the morals to give information up to the public, even if it's Anonymous. Only her psychologists can say whether she's a psychopath or not.

I can see how the immaturity of her youth coupled with the delusory fantasy she conjured up with Steinke could factor strongly towards the argument for a temporary psychosis. It appears that Steinke and J. A 'normal' person with appropriate levels of emotion, empathy, and personal responsibility, would find the reality very hard to live with.

My heart breaks when I hear about the 8 year old brother, so innocent with his stuffed animals and light saber, pleading for his life, scared, and then dying in a horrific scene. It's almost too much to bear thinking about. She has to live with the reality of that memory and its evident accountability on her part. I can't imagine that she would ever have a good life. A secret like that is so big it's unavoidable. I have been reading this story since the crime was committed.

I don't believe she was mentally ill or she is now. I believe she manipulated her boyfriend first and then justice system by showing that she progress. I read the book "runaway devil" and met the author as well. When I was 12 I knew what was doing and was responsible for my actions.

Whatever she did she deserves to be rotten in hell. I totally believe that young offender act should be changed and there should be tougher punishments for crimes like this. Some people say she will rehabilitate but what about her brother!! He will never get second chance!! He will never see the light again! Why sould she get chance!! If you have murder once you will murder again just like once get addicted to something you stay addicted!! She should be kept in jail for the rest of her life!!

Just stop talking about it n leave her alone already I mean she was 12 n with a 23 year old n everyone wants to blame the 12 year old n make it out like she's a monster r something come on y'all know the 23 year old planed some of it I mean I was born at night but not last night lol. I am deeply disturbed by the comments I have read here.

You criticize a murderer as if she is an animal. I am not defending her, but you act as if you are not capable of doing the same as her. All humans are capable of killing each other. Do not think of yourself as higher than others because in reality, your just like us.

Being released from prison at age 23 is no justice. Canadian law needs to be changed. This girl should stay in jail for many decades.

Just goes to show you how easy it is to affect a child's mind. Humans are animals of emotion. So in a way im not shocked by this, for people tend to forget that we are animals. Animals who have a hard time in the beginning of life figuring out what it is what we are , and what we can become.

This is a sad story non the less. Somewhat disturbing, and the shortness of the time served was disturbing also. It seems that killing people today gets less time in gaol than stealing cash from multinationals.

Depending on who you are sometimes as well. I feel that she should still be inside, not going to college getting a chance she never gave her brother. I almost wondered "what the hell, she murdered noone from my family, I'm still alive" until I've seen Jasmine's name.

Not to mention the way people would treat her because they confuse her with the murderer. A heartbreaking and disturbing tale, but a well written and informative hub. Thank you for sharing this. Voted up. Totally gripping and heartbreaking at the same time. Voted up and interesting. My father died when we were 13 and a very mature 13 a year after they bought a house. My sister and I were fraternal twins and were there for our mother as we just moved into a small house with no insurance because of our dad's bad heart but we survived because we helped mom around the house, cleaning and cooking while she looked for a job that would keep us together.

That was in the fifties before all this new technology and I would never trade that time for today. To murder ones parents and little brother who begged for his life is beyond comprehension. She should stay in jail for the rest of her life and damn our Canadian justice system and the blood sucking legal aid lawyers. It is almost scary today to have children what with all the violent videos, tv movies and in theaters, facebook, instagram, I phones etc.

Kids today won't play box games at home with their family like Trivia Pursuit etc. It seems that the family unity is disappearing and the kids are only here for us to support them instead of belonging.

LOL how do you bring that up on a first date? I murdered my whole family when I was 12 years old. What I have to say is I knew both of them very well Jeremy and jasmine jasmine's. Parents were good people who didn't deserve this. Jasmine should still be locked up. She is sick.

She wanted her family dead she hated rules. When Jeremy could try and talk her out of it. She would cry. Jeremy would do anything to keep her happy. Jeremy was scared. And alone. She tricked him. Now look were u are jasmine. Never gonna get to marry jer now.

Jeremy also was no better l. What 22 year old prays on 12 13 year old girls? His mom was a drunk retard no wonder why he turned out the way he did. Don't blame the music or the make up and the clothes cause I listen to the same music and dress the same as they did and I didn't kill anyone. Come on! It has nothing to do with mental health either cause mentally she was fine.

Or at least she was until she watched Jeremy kill her family. That would definitely screw with someones mental state. Jeremy didn't turn her into a monster. She turned her self into one. Phyco twisted twat. What kind of person kills her little brother. Like just for that she shouldn't be let out. In America a young man back in at age 14 killed 3 year old boy. He's still in jail. Age doesn't mean shit. She was just as much part of it as Jeremy was she should be in jail still to.

She planned it all and made him do the dirty work. I know for a fact if I see her. I will attack her. I loved my big brother Jeremy and wished he never met that evil little witch. Once a killer always a killer.

She needs to be locked away for good. Doesn't matter what age you are. We all were raised to not hurt others.
